The Road to Sidney

Awesome, exciting, exhausting...
What an experience to welcome your child into the world.
All your wonderful texts, e-mails and phone calls and good vibes helped get us through the rough spots!
Here are a few images that pretty much sum up our last 72 hours.
Hi Grama! Grama Karen arrived Tuesday, for two weeks, to care for Ben -- who unfortunately was not feeling his best. Little fever, little cough, little teething... nothing some grandparent TLC can't fix.

All's well! Wednesday, shortly after 8:21 a.m., daddy Steve cuts the cord.

That's all?? She weighed in at 7 lbs. 11 oz. I was sure she'd be a 10-pound baby, the way she moved around inside!
All smiles.... A happy, healthy baby is the most wonderful blessing.

Zzzzzzz. Now for a little rest.

Say cheese! First phone photo.

Ben and Grama Karen visited the next day. It took Ben a while to warm up to her. (He's still working on it).

Soon he was asking to hold "beebee sister."

And investigating her tiny features was kind of fun... but so was the hospital bed with lots of buttons, which he moved on to next.

By Friday afternoon we were given the OK to go home!
She traveled in the little "kimono" that my mom, aunt, uncle and I wore after our birth days. It was embroidered by her namesake great-grandma Lois McDowell.

Ben tries to wear Sidney's socks.

A vision in pink :)

Ben (virul rash and all) had to check out Sid's bed.

Sam and Mindy Kaufman were the first to meet her, on their way to the airport.

She woke just 2 times the first night home, and had a nice long nap on Saturday. After all the new faces and experiences, her wide-eyes needed a rest!
The rest of us are doing well and truly appreciate all your warm wishes. We're all blessed to be a part of such a big "family!" So give us your updates too, 'cause we'll keep ours coming.

Welcome!

Welcome to our little slice of cyberspace! Living in the Florida Keys often puts many miles between us and the ones we love. May this site help close the gap.

Up next for the Friedman clan:
  • Capt. Steve and angler Sam Kaufman will make their fishing debut in the Golden Fly tarpon tournament, May 19-21. Good luck guys!
  • Grandma Karen arrives on Memorial Day for a 2 week "vacation."
  • Baby Girl Friedman is scheduled to arrive Wednesday, May 28.

In the meantime, here are a few pictures to summarize 2008 so far.

"Snow mommy, snow!" Ben and I visited the Chicago area in late February. Here, we take a break from celebrating Great-grandma Lois's 90th birthday to play in the snow.

Happy birthday dear Benjamin We returned to Florida just in time to celebrate Ben's 2nd birthday with daddy on March 6. Note to self: store-bought blue frosting only stains skin for 24 hours.

Happy Mother's Day! Ben continues to amaze us with his wonderful two-ness.

Ready, set.... With less than 2 weeks until her scheduled arrival, we have yet to settle on a name. Tune in Wednesday, May 28 for the final decision!
